Online Sources for Genealogists
Ancestry Library Edition [in Library use only]
One of the most popular GALILEO databases, “Ancestry Library Edition” provides access to over 6 billion genealogical records, including federal census records, which are available for all states for the period 1790 through 1930. Over 3 million names are indexed on Georgia Deaths, 1919-1998, and over 90 million are listed on the Social Security Death Index.
This database, unlike Ancestry Library Edition, can be accessed on GALILEO by library patrons using their computers at home. Over 28,000 books, most of them family histories and local histories, are available in full text.
Historic Georgia Newspapers
All of these newspapers can be accessed on GALILEO by clicking on “Browse by Type” and then selecting “Newspapers.”
This website can be used to locate the names and dates of birth and death for over 71 million individuals buried in over 250,000 cemeteries.
Cyndi’s List consists of 187 categories listed alphabetically that helps researchers select from over 300,000 genealogical websites.
